Are you looking for a way to give to your community and/or favorite cause, but you are unsure of how to get started? Volunteering is a great way to make a positive impact and it’s perfect for teens with flexible schedules who can donate their time and efforts. With so many organizations in need, there are plenty of opportunities to share your time and energy. But before you get started, you need to consider where to begin your career of service and how much time you can donate to the cause.
Where to Volunteer
Think about some of the causes that are important to you and how you would like to donate your time. Are you an animal lover? Consider contacting your local animal shelter to see if they need help. Are you an extrovert who really enjoys being around people? Consider volunteering at a soup kitchen or providing company to the sick or elderly at a hospital or nursing home.
If you are uncertain about where to devote your time, don’t be discouraged, as there are plenty of resources out there for those looking to volunteer, including websites devoted to matching teen volunteers with the organizations based on their geographic area and service preferences.
As you consider your options, think about the benefits your community and the organization that you decide to volunteer with will realize as a result of your service. In turn, you’ll gain the satisfaction of contributing to the greater good and a broader world perspective.
