You may dread it, but eventually, you will reach the point when your son or daughter is a teenager. That means it’s time for driving lessons and a car of his or her own. When you reach this inevitable rite of passage (buying your teen a car), here are some of the things you should consider before making a purchasing decision.

Tips on Buying Your Teen’s First Car

Start by looking at cheap cars in your area. Your teenager really only needs a means of getting from Point A to Point B, and does not need anything that is expensive or extravagant. Look for budget-friendly, family friendly vehicles that your teenager can use for a few years while becoming more accustomed to driving.

Shop around. There are a wide variety of places where you can buy vehicles, both online and in person. Check out car supermarkets, dealerships, and classified ads. The more you shop around, the more likely you are to find a vehicle that works for you and your family without breaking the bank in the process.

Try to negotiate a better price. Most car retailers, regardless of whether they sell new or used vehicles, are willing to go down on the price a little for a guaranteed sale. Don’t be afraid to haggle a little to get a deal that’s going to work for you. You may end up saving a lot of money in the process of buying a really great car for your teen.

With the right approach, you can secure a safe, reliable, and affordable car for the young driver in your family.

Are you looking for a way to give to your community and/or favorite cause, but you are unsure of how to get started? Volunteering is a great way to make a positive impact and it’s perfect for teens with flexible schedules who can donate their time and efforts. With so many organizations in need, there are plenty of opportunities to share your time and energy. But before you get started, you need to consider where to begin your career of service and how much time you can donate to the cause.

Where to Volunteer

Think about some of the causes that are important to you and how you would like to donate your time. Are you an animal lover? Consider contacting your local animal shelter to see if they need help. Are you an extrovert who really enjoys being around people? Consider volunteering at a soup kitchen or providing company to the sick or elderly at a hospital or nursing home.

If you are uncertain about where to devote your time, don’t be discouraged, as there are plenty of resources out there for those looking to volunteer, including websites devoted to matching teen volunteers with the organizations based on their geographic area and service preferences.

As you consider your options, think about the benefits your community and the organization that you decide to volunteer with will realize as a result of your service. In turn, you’ll gain the satisfaction of contributing to the greater good and a broader world perspective.

When you’re tired of depending on your parents for cash and the allowance just isn’t cutting it anymore, it may be time to consider getting a part-time job to supplement your income.

Part-time jobs are a great way to have a little pocket money that you can use to buy clothes, treat a significant other or save up to buy that car. And while it may be difficult to find a job as a teen, there are certainly options available out there, so don’t get discouraged in the job application process.

As you begin this process, know that one of the setbacks to applying for a job as a teen is the lack of work experience. Some employers may be hesitant to extend an opportunity because they have no real indicators of how you will perform on the job. Will you show up, will you be punctual, will you be a hard worker? These are questions that every employer considers before making a hire, regardless of work experience.

Because this is your first opportunity, you will have to draw upon examples in your life that demonstrate your ability to be on time and work hard. Think about your attendance record at school to address your commitment to showing up on time, and your dedication to school work and chores as indicators of your ability to work hard, and use these examples to address the concerns of the hiring manager.

Rushing to leave behind childhood may be one of the worst mistakes that teenagers make. Teenagers rush to get through high school and college. Then it’s on to getting their dream job and starting a family. It’s unfortunate that kids don’t realize how quickly time passes.

Valuing One’s Life

Teach your teen to value life for what it is in the present moment instead of wishing for what is ahead. Teach your kid to enjoy hobbies and time spent with their family and friends. Once life gets into high gear, these things often fall to the back burner as responsibilities such as work, errands, and other activities take precedence. Relate to your teen with stories about your teenage years and your wishes and regrets.

Living Without Responsibility

One afternoon, sit down with your teenager and explain how much money it takes to provide for the family. Explain how much your home, their clothes, their televisions, the family cars, and their cell phones all cost. Make them understand the cost of living and items that they desire. Teaching them about your favorite coupon website will help them understand what it means to live a thrifty lifestyle. Then, at the end of the conversation, remind them that they are still young enough to enjoy living a life with few responsibilities. Encourage them to embrace the freedoms that come with youth while they can.

Ultimately, living life to its fullest while you’re young is important. These experiences mold children into who they are destined to become. These moments and memories will stay with them their entire lives. By allowing your kids to be kids, you’re offering them a chance at a fulfilling life.

Accessorizing your outfits are a fun way to add visual interest, color and texture to your wardrobe. And it doesn’t have to be expensive, either. Virtually everything that you need to accent your clothes can be found at your local craft store for just a few dollars, so start thinking about creative ways to add flair to your outfits and start shopping, then start crafting.

Jewelry making has gotten increasingly more popular and with so many interesting materials available, it’s easy to make personalized, one-of-a-kind pieces that trump what’s being sold at your favorite accessories store.

To get started on making your own pieces, head to the jewelry section of your craft store where you will find everything you need to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, brooches and anklets.

Most craft stores have beads in almost every color and type, from delicate blown glass beads, to earthy stones and multi-faceted crystals, so whatever look you are going for will surely be represented in this section.

For earrings, pick up materials such as eye pins and French hooks; bracelets, anklets and necklaces need a cord for stringing. Try wire, stretch cord, leather or hemp. Brooches and rings require backing and often a hot glue gun so that you can affix a bead or pendant to the backing.

And don’t forget about accessorizing your hair. Ribbons, fabric and feathers are perfect accents, and the craft store should have these items and plain barrettes, in droves.
