Why It's Great To Be A Teen

How to Get Your First Job

Teen Scams Here

When you’re tired of depending on your parents for cash and the allowance just isn’t cutting it anymore, it may be time to consider getting a part-time job to supplement your income.

Part-time jobs are a great way to have a little pocket money that you can use to buy clothes, treat a significant other or save up to buy that car. And while it may be difficult to find a job as a teen, there are certainly options available out there, so don’t get discouraged in the job application process.

As you begin this process, know that one of the setbacks to applying for a job as a teen is the lack of work experience. Some employers may be hesitant to extend an opportunity because they have no real indicators of how you will perform on the job. Will you show up, will you be punctual, will you be a hard worker? These are questions that every employer considers before making a hire, regardless of work experience.

Because this is your first opportunity, you will have to draw upon examples in your life that demonstrate your ability to be on time and work hard. Think about your attendance record at school to address your commitment to showing up on time, and your dedication to school work and chores as indicators of your ability to work hard, and use these examples to address the concerns of the hiring manager.
