Accessorizing your outfits are a fun way to add visual interest, color and texture to your wardrobe. And it doesn’t have to be expensive, either. Virtually everything that you need to accent your clothes can be found at your local craft store for just a few dollars, so start thinking about creative ways to add flair to your outfits and start shopping, then start crafting.
Jewelry making has gotten increasingly more popular and with so many interesting materials available, it’s easy to make personalized, one-of-a-kind pieces that trump what’s being sold at your favorite accessories store.
To get started on making your own pieces, head to the jewelry section of your craft store where you will find everything you need to make necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, brooches and anklets.
Most craft stores have beads in almost every color and type, from delicate blown glass beads, to earthy stones and multi-faceted crystals, so whatever look you are going for will surely be represented in this section.
For earrings, pick up materials such as eye pins and French hooks; bracelets, anklets and necklaces need a cord for stringing. Try wire, stretch cord, leather or hemp. Brooches and rings require backing and often a hot glue gun so that you can affix a bead or pendant to the backing.
And don’t forget about accessorizing your hair. Ribbons, fabric and feathers are perfect accents, and the craft store should have these items and plain barrettes, in droves.
